Bare Wine Cellar, Tasting Room and Elsewhere Kitchen
We’re tucked down the lane at 49 Brown Street, just off the main road in Ponsonby/Grey Lynn. Bare Wine Cellar has been our little underground home for the past few years — a relaxed space built around good wine, simple food, and warm hospitality.
After many late nights, shared bottles and unforgettable evenings, Bare Wine as you know it will be closing its cellar doors on Friday 17th July as we begin a new chapter nearby with La Buvette by Bare Wine on Richmond Road.
Until then, we’d love to welcome you in for one last glass downstairs.
We have a large selection of wines — over 350 bottles from New Zealand and abroad — with a focus on natural, organic, and low-intervention styles. You’re welcome to join us for a glass, a casual tasting flight, or even a blind flight if you're up for something fun.
Elsewhere is a kitchen takeover at Bare Wine by the team behind the pop-up Someplace Somewhere. Expect seasonal sharing plates, a European-leaning menu with Japanese undertones and plenty of fermentation.
The Bare Wine staples remain too: sourdough, cheese and charcuterie, perfect alongside the wines. Think neighbourhood wine cave — cosy, curious, and somewhere to settle in for the evening.
Seating is limited (and a waitlist may apply), so we recommend booking ahead.
We’re open:
Wednesday to Saturday — 4pm till late
Each table is available for a two-hour session.
Please note that bookings made on the day after 6pm may not be seen by the team, though we’ll always do our best to accommodate.
In the meantime, La Buvette by Bare Wine is now open on Richmond Road for coffee, baguettes and pastries, with wine evenings coming soon.
