This wine is named after the song and album called Magic of Ju-Ju released by Archie Shepp in 1968 which one reviewer has described as a “tour-de-force” and “eighteen plus minutes of Shepp roaring on tenor on top of a drum hurricane. The energy level starts off frenetic and stays there”.
That’s all well and good, however we find the drink as opposed to the music quite calming and relaxing.
Sourced from certified organic vineyards, the 2023 vintage is a blend of 40% each of Chenin Blanc and Colombard and 20% Sauvignon Blanc, all from vines that are on average 30 years old. The Chenin Blanc juice was transferred to old wooden barrels for 6 months on fine lees. The Colombard and Sauvignon Blanc were aged in stainless steel vats. All the juice was combined a few weeks before bottling without filtering. It was bottled in April 2024 (on the 18th to be precise.)
We very much like this vintage and are impressed by the texture as well. It weighs in at a very nice 10.5% alcohol.
